Ceylan Öztürk meets the viewers with her new solo exhibition titled “I saw.” between the dates 7 December – 26 January at Daire Gallery.

The works by the artist, which are exhibited, deal with the overlooked, largely unconsidered aspects of some past events. While the works in question present subjects such as emphasizing war hidden in peaceful intentions, controlling and presenting news within certain frames, new expectations creating hope as well as fear, or recording the time spent futilely; they invite the viewer to be attentive and urge him to see that which cannot be seen and lies beyond what is before him.

For example, the fact that the signs evoking peace and war are together in the work titled “Visual Impairment” causes these two signs with different meanings to merge; and the viewer, standing before an eye chart, is asked to be able to differentiate them. On the other hand, in the work titled “4895 Days” the lines carved on a wall by a prisoner are heaped up in the form of metal parts, and these turn into a kind of timelessness in the void so long as they constitute records of time.

These kinds of thoughts based on double perspectives reveal the main idea of the exhibition.

“I saw.” can be seen from 7 December 2012 through 26 January 2013, Tuesdays-Saturdays between 11:00 and 18:30 at Daire Gallery
